As a leader, Swing-It has created the Project “Virtual Environment for a Superior neuro-PsichiAtry” – VESPA, financed by the POR Sicilia 2007/2013, intervention line 4.1.1.1., whose primary goal is to develop a computerized immersive virtual reality system, tele-supervised by an health care staff located in distant health care facilities for quantitative evaluation and rehabilitation of cognitive-motor functions, among others, regarding mentally challenged individuals or individuals with specific disorders of language or Alzheimer’s Dementia. VESPA System can be installed in hospitals, schools, residential facilities, etc.

The VESPA Project is realized by an agency ATS and research bodies.

The VESPA System will allow a multitude of children and elderly to carry out their daily cognitive-motor rehabilitation directly at school or in residential facilities ensuring the continuity of school education and assistance and, eventually, solving the problem for care-givers to pick up and bring their children at school or in residential facilities after taking them to the headquarter of cognitive-motor rehabilitation.

The VESPA System is the a worldwide unique state-of-the-art system for the evaluation and rehabilitation of cognitive-motoric functions (3D visual-spatial abilities, 3D visual and spatial attention, verbal and spatial memory, executive functions, abstract thinking, etc.) with immersive virtual reality. it furthermore offers the possibility to specialized staff to supervise the procedure over a videoconference (tele-supervision).

In virtual reality immersion, the user manipulates virtual objects within the virtual scenarios, experiencing emotions and  tactile sensations thanks to instrumented gloves (immersive digital environment). Compared to any other system on the market, VESPA System offers the chance to evaluate several cognitive-motor constructive functions in 3D space. The execution of the tasks in 3D will allow the evaluation of the visuospatial deficits on a perceptive and attentive level. Furthermore, memory and learning deficits as well as the deficits in language comprehension can be tracked and assessed. Moreover, the results of the tasks are communicated and processed in real-time via the Internet to allow an immediate and effective re-modulation of the rehabilitation protocol.
